Shikanoko Nokonoko Koshitantan

Tokyo Metropolitan Hino Minami High, or simply Hino Minami High School, is a co-ed prefectural high school located in Hino City, Tokyo. Hino Minami High School’s main building is an L-shaped building with the clock positioned in the left-hand corner of the school. Just like most high school in Japan, Hino Minami consists of three grade levels: The first, second, and third years. The students also have to study classes in both the morning and the afternoon, after which they can meet with their respective clubs.

The school also has a wide range of clubs, a student council and is able to organize its own events, such as the sports festival.

The Koshi Torako Championship Trivia Game (one-time only)

The Deer Club is the only club to not use any of the classrooms/rooms inside the school building, but instead a formerly abandoned warehouse within the school yard.

The Deer Club is an extracurricular club founded by Shikanoko Noko wherein its goal is to have its members take care of deer and do “deer-like activities”.

The location it uses is the formerly abandoned warehouse of the Hino Minami High School, with its president being Koshi Torako.

Club Activities:

When guests are over, the Deer Club’s mascot, Nokotan, offers them a generous supply of deer crackers as well as a bundle of herbs/grass from her head storage as a sign of welcome.

When presented with an animal brush, members must brush the resident deer, Noko, with it.

When given a bundle of deer crackers, members must eat them on sight.

Members who fail to follow any of the activities assigned to them will be met with the wrath of Anko’s tamest trap - the dropping wash bowl.

There are times where Noko calls on for member to participate in “antler-growing training”, wherein she encourages the members to meditate hard enough, and help Noko grow her antlers until they flop to the floor.

According to Bashame, this specific activity is not recommended for newbie members.

There are times wherein Noko will decide to take the club on a field trip to the training grounds - a.k.a. Nara Park in the Nara Prefecture.

Members:

Noko Shikanoko - the one who founded the club and is the club’s mascot. She is the one who decides what the club activities will be, and is the one who personally greets the guests with welcome presents (deer crackers and a bundle of grass). Shikanoko Noko has large, expressive green eyes with fine, delicate eyelashes that subtly frame her eyes. She has light brown hair styled into a neat bob cut that falls just above her shoulders. Her bangs are straight and slightly parted in the middle, gently curving to frame her forehead and blend seamlessly with the rest of her hair.

One of her most distinctive features is the pair of large, light-colored antlers protruding from the sides of her head, resembling those of a deer. These antlers are rough and extend outward and upward.

She wears a traditional Japanese school uniform. The top is a crisp white sailor-style shirt with a classic dark blue collar edged with a lighter blue stripe. A light blue scarf is neatly tied at the front. The sleeves of her top are long and extend to her wrists, with dark blue cuffs that match the collar, also trimmed with a light blue stripe.

Her outfit includes a pleated navy blue skirt that reaches mid-thigh. The pleats are sharp and well-defined, suggesting that the uniform is well-kept. Her legs are clad in white knee-high socks that reach just below her knees, contrasting with the navy blue of her skirt. She completes her outfit with brown loafers that are practical and stylish. The loafers are polished and well-maintained, indicating attention to detail in her appearance.

Shikanoko Noko is shown to have a bubbly personality, always happy but yet is still clueless and clumsy. Unlike her titular counterpart, she is an excitable, fun-loving girl who lets her immaturity shine, from encouraging and finding sex jokes funny, to picking fights with others who have the high ground against her.

She is carefree, energetic, and is constantly unpredictable due to her supposed naivete. She engages in many quirky behaviors that would normally shock others and catch them off-guard.

Despite this, it seems that her antics only affect the sanity of Koshi Torako, who more often than not ends up questioning her tendency to be the only one seemingly self-aware of what is happening.

As opposed to being seemingly naive, she has times where she lets her true intelligence shine, more often than not in the form of psychological manipulation against Koshi herself, which the latter never fails to fall victim to.

Torako Koshi - the Deer Club’s president who begrudgingly accepted her role, also dubbed as Noko’s caretaker. She is also the Student Council`s president. She is indifferent towards the club, as, on one hand, she loves spending the club’s funding on renovating the warehouse, but on the other hand, she does not want anyone outside of the three other current members knowing of her past - as she drops her honor student facade during club time.

Torako has long blonde hair that fades into a light pink gradient at the bottom, with two horn-like tufts at the side, as well as an ahoge at the top of her head. She has purple-pink gradient eyes and fair skin.

She wears a traditional sailor-like school uniform, accompanied by a light blue scarf and knee-length navy blue skirt. She wears long, grayish-black stockings and brown penny loafers.

Wanting to change for the better as a former delinquent, Koshi has vowed to renew her ways and, within the span of a year, has become the complete opposite - an honor student who’s athletic, kind, helpful, and adored by all.

She is introduced as a composed person who is always in control, although this becomes challenged after meeting Shikanoko Noko, wherein the latter’s antics makes some of her delinquent-like traits slip out more often than she would like to admit. Her delinquent mannerisms can include more threatening language, sharp glares, and a deeper voice.

She dislikes being the only one self-aware about the consequences of Noko’s nature and antics, especially when her own reputation is put on the line. She also dislikes whenever she is the only one putting in any effort in doing things that is expected of a group. She dislikes when her past as a delinquent or other secrets are brought to light, often by Shikanoko Noko.

She is very easily embarrassed, often heavily blushing from romantic gestures like love letters, or inquiries about her love life. Torako also tends to get embarrassed from situations she puts herself in - such as being observed when singing to a deer. This embarrassment often causes Torako to freak out. She is also easily swept by her own emotions - such as when she easily believed Noko will leave the club permanently on grounds of Bashame’s diagnosis without even asking for a second opinion.

On top of being an honors student, she is also very passionate about her likes and hobbies - having a collection of stuffed toys she kisses before going to bed, calling out to several shonen manga characters for help when met with difficult situations, and displaying her knack for interior design after being left in charge with managing the warehouse for the Deer Club. Furthermore, she does not dislike being an idol, as indicated by her route during the Game of Deer Life.

Anko Koshi - joined immediately after transferring to Hino Minami High as a first year. The self-proclaimed caretaker of her older sister, Torako Koshi.

Anko consists of quite literally the same assets of her sister Torako. Differences being that she has slightly longer than shoulder length hair of which is deep purple, paired a gray fleece sailor uniform with a yellow scarf.

She is also seen with a navy overall-like uniform that has a bow to replace the scarf. Has a “killer mode” of which her eyes turn into a target like pattern with glowing red in the middle.

Anko is best known for her sister complex towards her older sister, Koshi Torako. Though, it is yet to be explained how this came to be, she admits to being highly obsessed with everything regarding her sister, from her worst traits to her best.

She makes it her personal life goal to be always by her sister’s side 24/7, much to the latter’s dismay and embarrassment. She will not hesitate to try and outright assassinate anyone who goes as far as to even just stand within near proximity of Torako, which even the latter can’t even convince her to stop herself.

The only time she makes an exception to anyone else getting close to her sister was when she tried staking Noko with a kunai to the heart, only to see, much to her surprise, that her sister deeply cares for Noko, and has decided that someone else, for once, was also worthy of supporting Torako together, side-by-side.

However, if her sister is around or not related to the matters at hand, Anko is reasonable, kind, and gentle. She makes Bashame rice balls and prepares chalk for Tsuchi after they have finished their field work.

Nevertheless, Anko is similar to her sister Torako in that she’s also cunning and delinquent, even more so than Torako. As indicated by the Game of Deer Life, she chooses to rule over the animal kingdom with an iron fist, much to the shock of her own sister.

Meme Bashame - similar to Anko, she joined as soon as she transferred, due to having witnessed Noko’s kindheartedness firsthand. Deer-in-training.

Bashame has expressive brown eyes with fine eyelashes that frame her eyes, she has an olive green colored neat bob-cut hair that has a two leaf-like ahoge on the top of it. Her bangs are slightly even and parted in the middle, that gently curves to frame her forehead and blend right with the rest of her hair.

Her outfit consists of a warm navy-blue colored traditional japanese school uniform, a yellow scarf-tie is finely tied at the front of the seifuku’s collar. Her arms are covered with an almond-brown colored cardigan with a poet type sleeves that fall down to her wrists.

Her skirt is lightly folded and the same color as her seifuku, seemingly to be at mid-thigh. Additionally, she wears neat, and fine white leg warmers at a mid-calf length finally, she wears brown, leather loafers.

Meme can be described as laidback and sluggish, she has no problem falling asleep almost anywhere, as seen when she was shown asleep on the concrete flooring of the schoolgrounds twice. She is introduced by being asleep in front of the door to the Deer Club, to Torako’s horror.

In her debut, she is shown to have little confidence in herself but had some hope of wanting to make an impact on her life after having newly entered high school.

As a result, she was easily swayed by the simple act of kindness presented to her by Noko, who she then immediately starts idolizing to what can be described as somewhat of a passive obsession.

She has a fascination with rice, as she often cooks, eats, and grows rice in the Deer Club, more times being seen with rice than not. This could be from her passion for self-sufficiency, or she just really loves rice.

Affiliated:

Ms. Ukai - the teacher of Noko and Koshi, and the one responsible for officiating/approving the club. She is then made into the club’s advisor.

Tsuchi - the club/school pet who was born from the excess horns that Noko shed at one point, that Koshi had to cut off with an axe. It somehow gained sentience and was found by Noko when she was digging up the school yard.

The Club’s houseplants - Namely, Manjiro, Iruka, Umako, and Emishi. The houseplants that decorate the club, provided and cared for by Koshi herself. She gets annoyed when the likes of Tsunoda starts chewing on any of them, specifically Manjiro.

Visitors:

Tsunoda - a frequent visitor of the club, he is an adult male deer from the deer exhibit of the local zoo. He seems to know how to get back to his own enclosure.

The Members of the Student Council:

Neko Nekoyamada - the student council VP who accidentally became an honorary member due to how easily distracted she is, when in actuality, wants to shut down the club for the sole reason of her petty one-sided rivalry with Koshi. While Nekoyamada acts outwardly nice to Torako, she is determined to find out any secrets Torako may be hiding to get Torako’s position in the student council president, to herself.

She occasionally makes cold jabs at Torako to her face, however, she is not as coldhearted as she wants to appear to be. As shown in the sports festival arc, she can’t bring herself to try and bring Torako down when the latter was overfatigued, and even tried to get her a bottle of water and try to convince her to rest.

Chiharu Tsubameya - the student council treasurer who just happened to be curious about the club, and was invited over as a guest by Noko herself. She is secretly a fan of Noko and is very happy her senpai noticed her.

Kinu Tanukikoji - the student council secretary, who became a visitor who briefly stayed over for Bashame’s cooking.
