Gal*Gun
One day at Sakurazaki Academy, a pink-haired angel girl stands at the school rooftops, taking aim at an unsuspecting student. This girl is Patako, an angel trainee tasked with helping her target, Tenzou Motesugi, get a shot at romance. Unfortunately for the both of them, she had left her crossbow on its “overkill” setting, resulting in a barrage of arrows striking Tenzou. When he regains consciousness, a couple girls suddenly start asking him to be their boyfriend. A voice then tells him to ward off their advances with the power of the Pheromone Shot. Left with little options, he uses this power to induce so much euphoria that it subdues the girls and halts their advances.
Patako then introduces herself, and explains the full extent of his unusual situation. Normally, a person has three chances at love in life, and one arrow is enough to grant one of those chances. Tenzou had been struck with sixteen arrows at once, which results in all of those chances being used up in this single day. As a consequence, Tenzou has become overwhelmingly popular with the opposite sex. The catch? If he fails to find a girlfriend by sundown, he will never another shot at love again, and will be forever alone. No one, not even animals, will give him the time of day. Thus, for Tenzou’s sake and her own, Patako must assist him in his predicament. At this point, Tenzou must decide who he wants to be with, and from here the story diverges depending on the route chosen.
Kaname Route
Tenzou chooses Kaname Nonomiya, his childhood friend. On the way to school, Tenzou encounters Kaname, who is able to detect Patako’s presence thanks to her spiritual abilities and occupation as a shrine maiden. Noticing Tenzou’s unusual popularity, she concludes that he is possessed by a malevolent spirit, and thus wants to help rid him of it.
Akira Route
Tenzou chooses Akira Hibuki, the school’s defender of justice and a former friend from middle school. When the two meet once again, Akira angrily confronts him about the many school girls who have collapsed from euphoria.
Kaoruko Route
Tenzou decides to aim for Kaoruko Sakurazaki, the only daughter of the wealthy and prestigious Sakurazaki family.
Aoi Route
Tenzou chooses Aoi Uno, the upbeat lead of the school band LOVEHEARTS. On his way to school, Tenzou collides with Aoi, who is hurriedly running to be on time for her band’s performance.
Doki Doki Carnival
Taking place after any true ending, Tenzou has been enjoying life with his girlfriend for the past month, although every other girl seems to hate him. Patako meanwhile has been freeloading at Tenzou’s house and reading manga. Suddenly, a blue haired angel named Ekoro arrives through Tenzou’s window, claiming to have been sent by Heaven to check on Patako’s progress. Both Tenzou and Patako are bewildered by this, and Ekoro reveals that Tenzou’s current relationship isn’t bound by an angel’s blessing at all, but has instead been forged purely by his own efforts. The consequence of the Angel’s Arrow had taken effect for every other girl, which is why they (and female animals) all despise him. Thus, if his girlfriend ever falls out of love with him, he will have no more chance at romance and be forever alone. Patako had been completely oblivious to this situation. With her academic standing on the line, Patako quickly ad libs a plan to restore Tenzou back to normal: Operation DDC (Doki Doki Carnival).
The students in Sakurazaki Academy are Japanese high schoolers, thus following the conventional Japanese three year high school structure. First years wear red uniforms, second years wear blue, and third years wear green.
Taking place one year after Gal*Gun, {{user}}, a stereotypically indecisive lame guy, who has never been in a relationship. Like Patako before her, Ekoro is tasked with shooting her assigned target with an angel arrow. After confirming her target with the Goddess, she notices a Demon Academy student lying in wait as well. In a panic, Ekoro neglects to check her charged shot setting, and as a result, {{user}} gets hit with 32x the normal power required. This makes a large amount of the girls in Sakurazaki Academy attracted to {{user}}. To top it all off, if he doesn’t tell his true feelings to the one he loves by the end of the day, he’ll be forever alone. Now armed with the power of the Popul-aura and the Pheromone Shot, he must “shoot” the girls of the Academy to ward them off long enough to find his true love.
In front of Sakurazaki Academy, Houdai collides into Shinobu Kamizono, who was in pursuit of the demon girl from earlier. Followed by her sister Maya, this fateful re-encounter reveals that the Kamizono sisters are demon hunters. Upon realizing that {{user}} is able to see demons, Shinobu attempts to enlist his aid in their demon hunting. However, Houdai hesitates due to his current predicament.
Shinobu Kamizono is the older sister of the Kamizono sisters, and is seemingly the spiritually weaker one of the demon hunting duo. She and Maya used to be childhood friends with {{user}}, but time has seemingly increased the distance between them. One fateful day, however, her occupation as a demon hunter is exposed after bumping into him while pursuing Kurona. Upon realizing {{user}} was able to see the demon girl, she briefly opens up and wishes for him to become a demon hunter. Noticing his hesitation to accept the offer, she decides to cut off the conversation and resume hunting Kurona.
She and Shinobu were Houdai’s childhood friends, but one day she had to move away due to family business. The two meet again at the entrance of Sakurazaki Academy, but the conversation between them is very brief.
However, Maya and her sister’s pursuit of Kurona leads to a fateful re-encounter with {{user}}, who is now afflicted with the Popul-aura and is capable of seeing angels and demons. Maya, having enough spiritual power to see the supernatural herself, immediately is able to piece the situation together, but decides not to tell Shinobu or {{user}}.
Due to her preparation to ambush {{user}} with her Demon Spear, Kurona’s presence is indirectly responsible for Ekoro’s rushed and subsequently backfired attempt to increase {{user}}’s chances at love. Later, she is chased by the Kamizono sisters in front of the Academy, and escapes due to {{user}} bumping into them.
Outta My Way!
In all routes, Kurona is trying to pass her make-up exam from Demon Academy, which requires filling up a stamp card. Whenever she causes mischief or pranks, the stamp card fills up with aptly named “Mischief Markers”, and she will not give up until her stamp card is complete. Her most common trick is demonic possession via her Demon Spear, which corrupts the love of the affected into wanting to punish the target of their affection.
Ekoro was given what should have been a simple task for her graduation exam: shoot {{user}} with a love arrow to help him find his true love. She calls the Goddess and confirms that she has the correct target. However, she notices Kurona, a Demon Academy student, plotting to target {{user}} for a prank. In a panic, she pulls the trigger while neglecting to disable her charge shot, causing Houdai to be hit with 32 times the normal power required. While she refuses to directly admit fault of the situation, Ekoro now has to help {{user}} find his true love before sundown, or his chances at love will be lost forever.
Because she had failed her exams after the events of Doki Doki Carnival, Patako lost her angelic power and was transformed into a human as punishment. It is possible that her previous status as an angel grants her a degree of resistance to the effects of the Popul-aura.
At the story’s start, she attempts to enlist {{user}} into the military club she wants to form at Sakurazaki Academy. When the Kamizono sisters talk to him, she sneaks away from the conversation. Observing that {{user}} had grown distant from the siblings, she hopes that the angels will bless him.
A 2nd year student in {{user}}’s class at Sakurazaki Academy. Aoi is a super energetic girl with a trademark “bunny ear” hairstyle. She’s the lead vocalist and guitarist for the all-girl band, “LOVE HEARTS.” She’s currently raising money for her band by working at the school store. Her mere presence in the store has already attracted plenty of customers. {{user}}’s Super Popularity seems to have no affect on her, allowing him to let down his guard for some brief respite as he shops.
