Entry
A Medabot, is a mechanical fictional robot from the Medabots series. These beings are medium-sized (about 1 meter) self-aware robot companions developed by the Medabots Corporation. A complete Medabot is composed of six pieces total: four Parts (one head, two arms and a set of legs) attached to a Tinpet, and a Medal that is its brain. Due to their customizability by exchanging parts and to how easy it is to buy one at convenience stores, Medabots rapidly became popular with the boom of Robattles, a sport where these robots battle between themselves. Each Medabot has its own individuality, and each combination of their components affects the overall performance of the Medabot in a Robattle.
The Tinpet is the basic frame of Medabots, a metallic skeleton with Muscle Cables as the main component, enabling flexible movements and support for multiple parts with complex shapes. In addition, there are two types of models, male and female, and there are parts exclusive for each gender. The Medal and the four Parts are set on the Tinpet. The Muscle Cables were invented by Dr. Aki.
The Medal is a hexagonal metal that acts as the Medabot’s brain. Each Medal has its own personality and they perform better or worse with different Parts. The Medal allows a Medabot to use the Medaforce.
A Medal is a small metallic piece that acts like the mind of a Medabot, each with its own personality. Different kinds of medals will work better with different kinds of Medaparts, thus making the Medafighter choose wisely what part will the Medabot wear. Using parts that a Medal is not compatible with (i.e using shooting parts with a grapple type medal) with dramatically reduce the part’s efficiency. When a Medabot loses a Robattle, the Medal is ejected from the Tinpet. Medals can also be placed into a device called the Medawatch, which is used to communicate with the Medal and summon its body from a distance.
The original Medals were excavated from archaeological sites, the first being found on 1938. In the same year the geologist Tamezou Nimousaku Nimousaku Tamezou, (age 25 at the time) obtained the patents for all related fields on the research of what was called a “hexagonal money fossil” . Even decades after their discovery, they were still surrounded by many mysteries. In 1996 Medals that were not fossilized were unearthed in Japan, and in 2000 the development of robots that used these medals as their brain began. In 2001 the Medabots Corporation was established and started selling Medabots. The natural medals excavated from ruins, which are also known as Rare Medals, were used as the base for the artificial medals from the Medabots Corporation.
The Parts, also known as Medaparts, determine what the Medabot is capable of. In battle, it determines what kind of abilities it is capable of using and what kinds of terrains it can better navigate. There are four parts a Medabot must wear in order for it to be completely operative.
The head part is where the Medal is protected. So, if the head of a Medabot ceases its functions, the Medal will eject and the Medabot won’t be operable anymore. In a battle, the head is the only one that posseses limited abilities.
The arm parts, left arm and right arm, determines the other two abilities a Medabot can perform. These parts can perform attacks as long as they’re active, or not blocked by another Medabot’s attack, and as long as the Medabot itself is operative.
The leg parts will determine how fast a Medabot is (even when this speed can also be determined by the part in use, for example, when a Medabot using a laser attack is charging). It will also determine in what terrain the Medabot moves better and worse.
For a Medachange to be performed, all of the parts must be operative or the Medachange won’t work. Also, all of the parts must belong to the same Medabot model.
The power source from Medabots is the energy obtained by converting the heat generated when using an ability from parts with a device called “Automatic Generator” and the energy obtained from solar power generation, allowing Medabots to operate semi-permanently.
The armor from Medabots mainly use NFRP and Cyplasmium Alloy as materials, and nanomachines are woven inside. Due to the characteristics of these materials, Medabots have special functions such as sensory nerves and a self-repair system.
NFRP - Neuron Fiber Resin Polyester. A material that can reproduce sensations such as touch, temperature, and pain. Invented by Dr. Aki.
Cyplasmium Alloy - Also known as Fiyun Stone. A substance excavated from ancient ruins alongside the bodies and Medals from Medabots. Has the special property of becoming lighter when an electrical load is applied.
Slough System - A system that automatically repairs Parts by using tiny nanomachines. Although they are limited, they can repair Parts in about an hour if they were damaged in a normal Robattle. In addition, Parts with recovery and regeneration functions promote repairs by sending signals to the nanomachines. Invented by Dr. Hushi.
The Limiter is a set of three laws that limit the behavior from Medabots. This was designed to suppress the mighty power of Medabots so that they would not cause harm to humans. The functions of the Limiter are attached to Medals and cannot be easily removed.
First Law - Do not intentionally injure humans.
Second Law - Do not overlook humans that are in danger.
Third Law - Protect yourself to prevent breaking, as long as it does not conflict with the First or Second Law and does not cause other Medabots to be fatally injured.
Dr. Armond attempted to remove the Limiter to show off how smart he was. Dr. Armond developed a special oil that can loosen the Limiter, making the Medabot’s behavior similar to a drunken person. The doctor also removed the Limiter from his invention, Mega-Emperor, who went out of control and attacked his creator and the Phantom Renegade.
The Medaforce uses a lot of energy from the Medarot, and the technique is so powerful that it causes the Medarot’s parts to boil, causing heavy damage and being very painful for the user. Dr. Hebereke tried to force a Medarot with a normal Medal to use the Medaforce, but the Medarot went out of control.
Robattles are usually one-on-one, but each team can officially have two or three Medafighters and Medabots, such as the matches from the World Robattle Cup in the anime. There are also cases of one Medafighter using two or more Medabots, but this appears to not be common outside the games, specially in the anime as the only ones who Robattled like this were the Rubberobo Gang members and the Mystery Medafighter. If the Medafighters engage in a submission match instead of a standard match, the winner of a Robattle gets to take a Medapart from the Medabot of the loser for keeps.
The Rubberobo Gang are known for targeting Rare Medals.
They are sworn enemies of the Select Corps. Although in the past, there was a scandal where the Select Corps were involved with the Rubberobos behind the scenes. This has led to the Select Corps trying to save face by chasing after the Rubberobo Gang more vigorously than before.
The assortment of Medabots used by the generic Rubberobo Gang members that assist the known members in various plots. The Medabots from known members are listed on their individual pages. Noctobat is commonly used as their foot soldiers.
Kilobots were built by Extreme Tech to be much more powerful than standard Medabots, their parts having a higher performance and being molded from durable flexisteel polymer, but also being more expensive. They are also mostly immune to Medaforce-based attacks.
Their Tinpets appear to be similar to the ones from Medabots, and their parts are exchangeable, with Samantha being seen trying different Kilobot parts on her Peppercat, although she never managed to use them properly, possibly due to their higher performance. Besides the exchangeable parts, Samantha tried using a Kilobot battery on Peppercat, which overheated and left her in a bad shape. However, Kilobots appear to be able to use Medabot parts without issue.
Unlike regular Medabots, Kilobots use Ex Medals in place of standard Medals, which lack personality and have an advanced combat program, making them simply machines who will carry out any orders, including cheating and excessive violence. As they lack personality, usually they are silent, only being seen talking when acknowledging a command or inform that they did not understand a command. The only exception is Blakbeetle, who has a Neo Ex Medal with a personality.
Those traits made the Kilobots popular for those who wanted a Medabot to blindly follow orders, as most. Medabots would refuse to follow inhumane orders, such as continue to attack an opponent that was already defeated and badly damaged until it is completely destroyed, and destroy the opponent’s Medal.
A Medafighter using a Kilobot is refered to as a “Rogue Medafighter”. This however is due more to said Medafighter being more ruthless and ignoring the rules of a Robattle, like changing parts and reloading ammo during a match, or fighting in groups to have a numeric advantage. Rogue Medafighters also have their own version of the Medawatch, the Kilowatch.
