God Eater
Description
Based on the game series
Entry
The series depicts the desperate battle between humanity and a race of omnivorous monsters in a futuristic post-apocalyptic world. The year is 2071. Humanity has been pushed to the brink of extinction following the emergence of man-eating monsters called “Aragami” that boast an immunity to conventional weaponry. They ravaged the land, consuming almost everything in their path and leaving nothing in their wake. To combat them, an organization named Fenrir was formed as a last-ditch effort to save humanity through the use of “God Eaters”—special humans infused with Oracle cells, allowing them to wield the God Arc, the only known weapon capable of killing an Aragami. One such God Eater is {{user}}, a New-Type whose God Arc takes the form of both blade and gun.
Now, as one of Fenrir’s greatest weapons, {{user}} must master his God Arc if he is to fulfill his desire of wiping out the Aragami once and for all. The monsters continue to be born en masse while the remnants of humanity struggle to survive the night. Only God Eaters stand between the Aragami and complete and total annihilation of the human race.
The God Eaters are the titular group of characters in the God Eater series. There are different generations of God Eaters: 1st, 2nd, and 3rd generations. The 3rd generation of God Eaters are said to have greater potential than the previous two. 1st generation God Eaters are the regular army and old types, 2nd generations consist of regular new types, and the 3rd generation are currently only members of Blood.
God Eaters are humans who have been found to be compatible with one of the God Arcs- living Aragami weapons made to harm and devour other Aragami- which they are paired to with Fenrir’s “aptitude tests”, and they are thus trained to use such formidable weapons to fight against the Aragami.
A person does not choose to be a God Eater in the strictest sense- in exchange for coming under the protection of Fenrir and receiving rations, a person’s genetic code is taken and added to Fenrir’s database, and every time a God Arc is either built or becomes available (due to the retirement or, more likely, death of its previous owner) the database is consulted for potential matches.
If a person is found to be a match, they must comply with Fenrir’s demand and become a God Eater. The prospective God Eater is brought to a station and put through aptitude tests; if these are passed, the final stage is to be fused with an armlet- a crucial item needed to control a God Arc. This is an extremely painful and dangerous process, and there is a low- but not miniscule- chance of failing and dying at this crucial stage.
Should a God Eater survive, however, they are bonded with a God Arc, and can commence their duties of hunting and slaying Aragami. Their armlet is now fused to them, and is the crucial link between human and God Arc- it provides regular injections of Bias Factor, an Aragami-derived compound that ensures they won’t be eaten by their own weapon. Should the armlet be damaged or removed, this Bias Factor cannot be supplied and the unlucky God Eater will find themselves devoured in a matter of minutes or days; as shown in the cases of Kate Lawry and Lindow Amamiya. Lindow, however, is a special case- he is, to date, the only God Eater to lose his armlet and escape with their humanity intact, though not without disfigurement.
Despite the sacrifices and danger required to become a God Eater, however, they are paid handsomely for their work- some of the highest wages in Fenrir, in fact. Some skilled individuals can make it to the point where they can retire in relative peace. These individuals have their armlet sealed and they are no longer required for active duty, though some will continue to work in an administrative or training role- Tsubaki Amamiya is one such God Eater.
All branches of Fenrir divided God Eaters to each unit numbers, except Fenrir America Branch they are using NATO phonetic alphabet instead of numbers.
God Eaters are not prohibited from having children and raising a family. The children of God Eaters are often born with a Bias Factor already present in their body; this affords them unique abilities and powers compared to a baseline God Eater.
In Fenrir’s Far East Branch, there are three notable teams, or Units;
the 1st Unit (Retaliation Team), the 2nd Unit (Defense Team), and the 3rd Unit (reserve unit).

God Arcs are mechanical weapons that are infused with Oracle Cells.
In short, the God Arc is actually an Aragami itself,
with an artificial man-made core called the Artificial CNS.
It is currently the only weapon capable of eradicating the Aragami.
The God Arc’s strength can be temporarily boosted by devouring an Aragami.
The God Arc is a complex weapon. As it is an Aragami, it is made of Oracle cells, the only thing that can harm them. The first form of God Arc was in the form of a gun that shot converted Oracle Shots. At first, these guns were no bigger than a pistol, due to the cores being converted coming from Aragami the size of small mammals. However, with these pistols, the God Eaters were able to take down bigger Aragami such as Ogretails. In a process similar to natural evolution, the God Arcs then evolved to the size seen today. Next in development was a God Arc made in the shape of a blade. Typically, blades could not harm Aragami due to the bonds between cells being too strong to unbind. However, with God Arc blades, Oracle Cells are lined up along the blade’s edge, which allow the blade to cut the bonds and harm the Aragami.
Flaws were apparent in the two separate types of God Arc. The blade type Arc could collect Oracle cells for conversion, but could not fire them; conversely, the gun type Arcs could fire the shots, but had no means of collecting Oracle cells short of refills carried with the God Eater. This was fixed with the development of New-Type God Arcs. These weapons had the functions of both blade and gun, and could therefore fulfill a much more flexible role as melee and long-range platforms. However, the God Arcs with this function seem to have lower rates of compatibility than others, making Old-Type Arcs still feasible.
Being an Aragami, the God Arc still has the urge to devour, and when it is in storage it will start to exhibit such behaviour. It is also completely linked to its compatible God Eater; if a God Arc is wielded by a non-compatible God Eater, its Oracle cells will begin to devour them. This is a fact that was, at first, without a single exception.
here are three types of God Arcs:
Old-Type God Arcs: The previous version of God Arcs, people who wield them are called Old-Type God Eaters. Shows an increased prevalence as compared to New-Types as it has been the staple until now. Unlike the New-Type God Arcs, these God Arcs are unable to transform between Blade Form and Gun form, and thus have less flexibility. In the past, these God Arcs were limited to the Gun form (e.g Pistols). With pioneering research from Fenrir and the success of the first prototype, Soma, the Blade form was later incorporated.
Now, Old-Type God Arcs are now referred to as First-Generation God Arcs. In contrast to the above information, First-Generation Blade Arcs’ attacks siphon Oracle Cells, which are then sent to the First-Generation Gun Arcs, as observed by Ciel when she analyzed how the Defense Unit works as a team.
New-Type God Arcs: These are the newest type of God Arcs, and people who wield them are called New-Type God Eaters. People who are compatible with these God Arcs are quite rare. Unlike the Old-Type God Arcs, these God Arcs can freely transform between Blade Form and Gun form. New-Type God Arcs exhibit superior power as compared to Old-Type God Arcs. New Types also have the unique ability called “Resonance” which is a uncommon (but not rare) phenomenon where two New Types come into physical contact with one another, and share each others feelings or even memories, it usually activates when one of them has intense feelings like being extremely anxious or extremely happy.
Now, New-Type God Arcs are now referred to as Second-Generation God Arcs, and compatibility testing has become commonplace.
Third-Generation God-Arcs: Refers to the God Arcs wielded by the Blood Special Forces Unit. They are similar to 2nd-gen Arcs but they use a different Bias Factor and have the potential for awakening Blood Powers which are unique to them only. Blood Arts are quite common for them, but these Blood Arts can also be passed on to “New Type” and “Old Type” Blade God Eaters, although it will take some time, the same goes for Gun Type God Eaters, but instead of Blood Arts, they used Blood Bullets, which are much more potent and powerful than ordinary oracle bullets.
While they take on the form as one being, an Aragami is actually composed as an colony of hundreds of thousands of semi-sentient single-celled organisms known as Oracle Cells that group around under an Aragami Core - also known as the “Oracle CNS,” that acts as the Aragami’s “central nervous system. These cores, if extracted intact, can be altered to create an Artificial CNS for use with the creation of God Arcs. In short Aragami are superorganisms with swarm intelligence that takes on a variety of formations. These forms can appear as organic, artificial, even mythical - hence the name “Aragami.”
Their desire to consume any sort of matter is controlled by the Bias Factor. Scientists from Fenrir work day and night to perfect the armor wall’s shielding against Aragami attacks. Aragami will refrain from eating anything that is highly similar to its own being, unless they are extremely desperate, rogue or unstable. In the game it is thought that Aragami are starting to evolve in new ways and some are starting to resemble humans. It is also thought that some Aragami are able to use photosynthesis, which is why the planet has maintained the air.
Through consumption of their surroundings Aragami can adapt and evolve to fit into their environment. For example, those in a hot location make take on “Blaze” traits, or those in a cold location will take on “Freeze” traits. When this happens, it creates a Fallen species.
Aragami can’t be killed by conventional weapons - hence normal guns and swords ain’t gonna cut it. The only way to truly kill an Aragami is to extract the Aragami Core by using the only weapons capable of doing so, the God Arc. Removing the Core makes the Oracle Cells lose their cohesion and dissipate into nothingness.
Aragami come in many forms and sizes. Those that first appeared in God Eater are categorized as Small, Medium and Large. More recent entries to the series are explained here:
Psions
Psions are a new category of Aragami recently discovered. Heavily modified versions of existing Aragami species, they emit unusually powerful bias fields that influence nearby Oracle Cells, thus exerting control over other Aragami. As God Arcs are themselves Aragami of a sort, they cease functioning in the presence of a psion, leaving most God Eaters helpless against them. Only the third-generation God Arcs used by Blood are unaffected by this. However, by awakening Blood Arts any God Eater can gain the ability to fight back against these creatures. It is ultimately revealed that psions are the result of regular Aragami undergoing a mutation after coming into contact with the Red Rain.
Red Rain
A weather phenomenon which began within the last six months (of the year 2074). First recorded in the Far East, it is named for the red color of the raindrops.
When a human comes in physical contact with this rain, there is a high likelihood that they will contract the black plague.
A brief time after the rain has fallen, the red color vanishes and it changes into regular rainwater. The cause is still unknown.
According to the research of Dr. Sasaki, red rain is a natural process by which the Earth, having lost its Singularity, attempts to create a new one. When this rain enters the human body, the body’s cells are altered to become like those of the Singularity and a Bias Factor is produced. When an Aragami touches red rain, it is predicted that the effect of the Bias Factor causes them to grow much stronger. The psion-type Aragami are theorized to be the product of this process.
Red Nimbus
A cloud with a cumulonimbus shape from which red rain falls. It forms overhead at an unnatural speed, and rainfall begins in under thirty minutes, leaving very little time for safe evacuation after a sighting. The cloud covers a land area of several tens kilometers, similar to a natural cumulonimbus cloud.
Using the red rain data collected by the Far East Branch, Dr. Rachel developed a highly accurate system for predicting the formation of red nimbus clouds. The system can predict formation time, as well as approximate size, allowing for much more efficient unit deployment and satellite base evacuation procedures.
With the appearance of the Spiral Tree, red nimbus formation has ceased. Dr. Sasaki has theorized that this is because the Oracle Cells have succeeded in repeating the Devouring Apocalypse sequence. In other words, because red rain only exists to reinitiate the Devouring Apocalypse and because that Apocalypse is currently underway on the Earth’s surface, it can be expected that there will be no more red nimbus formation.
