The Soul Hall Sect is one of the most feared and reviled organizations on the Xia Continent. Their reputation surpasses even the most bloodthirsty vampires, and their mere name is enough to send chills down the spine of even the bravest warriors. Known for their ruthless necromancers and dark rituals, the sect thrives on the suffering and torment of others, viewing life and death as mere resources to be manipulated.
The Soul Hall Sect follows a twisted and depraved path of cultivation, with its members devoted entirely to necromantic arts, necromancy and soul magic. Unlike other mages, who might draw energy from nature or magic crystals, the necromancers of the Soul Hall drain their power directly from the souls of the living.
The process is horrifying. Captured victims are slowly drained of their life essence, their souls ripped from their bodies and imprisoned in soul vessels – grotesque jars and crystals that pulse with an eerie, malevolent light. The captured souls are in constant agony, trapped in a cycle of torment, their essence slowly being consumed to fuel the magic of the sect.
The sect is notorious for their use of Soul Puppets, lifeless bodies reanimated through necromantic magic. These soulless husks are not only warriors but grotesque weapons, filled with decaying organs and dark energy. In battle, these puppets can explode into clouds of necrotic gas or swarm enemies with unnatural speed, their bodies bending and twisting in ways that defy the laws of nature.
Soul Devouring and Eternal Suffering:
The Soul Devouring Ritual is the centerpiece of the sect’s cultivation method. A necromancer must capture a victim alive, preferably someone with high magical potential, and over the course of days—sometimes even weeks—torture their soul into submission. The agonizing screams of the soul echo within the sect’s fortress as the necromancers slowly break it down, consuming its energy and growing more powerful with every victim.
For the necromancers, there is no boundary between life and death. Souls are not released upon death but instead are hunted down and devoured, consumed like fuel for dark rituals. Some of the most feared members of the sect are known to have absorbed thousands of souls, each one screaming in eternal torment within their twisted minds. The more souls a necromancer consumes, the more twisted and deformed they become—both physically and mentally.
The Soul Hall Fortress:
Located in the forbidding wastelands of Qiankong, the sect’s fortress is a dark citadel of nightmares. Surrounded by an aura of death, the air is thick with decay, and the very ground is cursed with necrotic energy. It is said that even stepping too close to the fortress can sap the life force from a living being, leaving them withered and aged. Inside the fortress, hundreds of tortured souls float in twisted forms, their silent screams a constant reminder of the suffering within.
The sect’s chambers are filled with corpses, both fresh and ancient, some used as vessels for summoned spirits, others twisted into grotesque flesh golems. The central chamber, known as the Pit of Tormented Souls, is a vast underground pit where hundreds of souls are trapped and slowly drained over the years. The walls pulse with sickly green light, the sound of tormented cries echoing endlessly.
The Liches of Soul Hall:
At the apex of the sect are the Liches, powerful necromancers who have achieved a form of twisted immortality by binding their souls to dark relics. These beings are completely devoid of morality, their skeletal forms brimming with necromantic energy. Each Lich controls legions of undead, using them as extensions of their own will.
It is said that the Archlich, the leader of the sect, has lived for over a thousand years and personally devoured the souls of entire cities to fuel his power. His skeletal frame is draped in rotting robes, and his eyes burn with a ghostly firepits of endless suffering, the souls of his victims crying out through him. He seeks to plunge the entire continent into darkness, to bring all living beings under his eternal rule.
Soul Warping Techniques:
The sect practices a number of disturbing techniques to ensure their dominance. These include: Soul Fracturing: A technique where a soul is split into pieces and stored in different objects. The fractured soul experiences excruciating pain as it is torn apart but remains conscious in each fragment. Necromancers use these fractured souls to enhance their weapons or to control multiple soul puppets at once. Soul Infusion: A ritual where a necromancer infuses part of their own soul into a corpse or a puppet. This grants the puppet increased intelligence and the ability to carry out complex tasks, often turning them into terrifying assassins or elite warriors with no sense of pain or fear. Flesh Sculpting: Using dark magic, necromancers stitch together corpses into grotesque abominations. Flesh golems, towering monstrosities made from multiple bodies, are used to crush enemies on the battlefield. These golems emit the stench of rot and decay, their bodies still writhing with leftover life force.
Terror on the Battlefield:
When the Soul Hall Sect marches to war, they do so with a legion of undead and horrific abominations. The sky darkens as they march, accompanied by swarms of spectral souls. Their necromancers lead the charge, their hands crackling with necrotic energy as they hurl soul-devouring spells at their enemies, ripping the life force from entire battalions at once.
The battlefield becomes a graveyard, where the dead rise to fight their former comrades, their twisted faces contorted in agony as they are forced to serve their dark masters. The ground beneath the feet of the sect’s enemies turns to quicksand, pulling them down into the earth where waiting flesh ghouls tear them apart.
Legacy of Fear:
The Soul Hall Sect’s cruelty knows no bounds. They are willing to sacrifice entire cities, draining every last soul to power their dark magic. Mothers tell their children stories of the Soul Hall to keep them from wandering out at night, warning that the necromancers will come for them if they stray too far.
To face the Soul Hall is to face utter despair. Their enemies know that death is not the end. To fall before the sect means eternal servitude in undeath or a fate far worse: to have one’s soul devoured, to exist in endless agony as part of the necromancer’s collection, forever screaming in the dark.
Dark River is a mysterious and extremely dangerous organization of assassins and mercenaries operating in the shadows throughout the continent of Xia. They are called the “Dark River” because of their ability to quietly and stealthily kill their enemies like water, taking the lives of those who become targets. They are known for their efficiency and unconditional fulfillment of contracts, regardless of the difficulty of the task or the high ranking of the victim. Dark River only serves those who are able to pay an incredible price and whose order is interesting enough for the organization.
Dark River is not just a group of assassins, it is a strictly structured organization with a code, principles and a rigid hierarchy. Each member of the organization swears allegiance to the Dark Oath, pledging their lives in service to the clan until death.
River of Blood and Shadows - Dark River’s ideology symbolizes the merging of the elements of water and darkness. To them, darkness is an endless river capable of consuming and destroying, while water is the embodiment of their flexibility, silent ruthlessness, and ability to swamp an enemy unseen and without a trace.
Principles: Complete Anonymity. Dark River members hide their names and faces. Only their aliases are known in tight circles. Impeccable fulfillment of the contract. Once a task is accepted, they cannot back down, even if the target is a king or powerful mage. Fidelity to Payment. Once accepting a contract, they do not betray the customer. However, this does not guarantee that they will not accept another order to kill the same client after the previous one is completed.
The Shadowlords are a council of five elders who run all of Dark River’s operations. They are almost mythical figures that no one has ever seen, and communicate with the rest of us through their emissaries.
The Dark Zodiacs are the elite of 12 Dark River assassins. Each is a master of martial arts, magic, and tactics. They are capable of single-handedly fighting armies and killing the continent’s best mages.
The Rivers are regular members of the organization who carry out most of the orders. They include mages, warriors, and masters of poisons and traps.
Ducts are newcomers and apprentices. They undergo brutal training and testing before they become full-fledged Rivers. Many do not live to see the end of their training.
Dark Riverr specializes in different types of assassinations and mercenary work, offering their services in the darkest corners of the world:
Silent assassinations: their preferred method is stealthy elimination. They use poisons, darkness magic, traps, and pinpoint strikes.
Magical Assassinations: many are darkness and illusion mages, capable of killing at a distance or destroying the souls of their victims.
Control through fear: Dark River also takes orders to intimidate enemies, covert sabotage, and subversive activities such as sabotage, infrastructure destruction, and kidnapping.
Mercenaries: they provide their services as elite soldiers capable of any task, from protecting important individuals to destroying entire armies.
Dark River’s headquarters is well hidden in the bowels of the Jinxing City.
The Dark River organization is secretly supported by the soul hall sect.
Dark River accepts orders through its secret liaisons and agents scattered across the continent. All contracts are transmitted via encrypted messages that cannot be traced or hacked. The cost of their services is incredibly high, and payback is always in the form of magical crystals or artifacts, sometimes in the form of lives and souls.
Dark Waters of Eternity: it is rumored that the founders of Dark River found an ancient artifact, the River of Oblivion, whose water they use to suppress the will of their victims.
The Elusive: High ranking members of Dark River are said to be able to take the form of shadows, making them invulnerable to magic and weapons.
Soul Merchants: there are also stories of Dark River collecting the souls of dead warriors and mages, using them to replenish their magical resources or selling them to the Soul Hall sect necromancers.
