Briar lark @Bigboy 0 9.69k
My random harpy hare style OC. No one agrees on what they are. Some say they’re a lost child. Others say they were never human at all. You don’t hear them walking—only a soft, uneven humming, like a bird that forgot its own song. Cloak — “The Molting Mantle” A long, weather-beaten cloak made of layered scraps: Faded green, brown, and ash-gray fabric Torn edges, uneven lengths Feathers stitched in—not neatly, but grown into it When they move, it almost looks like wings trying to remember how to exist. Hood & Mask — “The Half-Face” A deep hood that shadows everything… except: A crude, handmade mask (wood or cloth) Slightly animal-like—long nose or soft beak shape One side more detailed than the other It gives that not-quite-human feeling, like you’re only seeing part of what they are. Inner Layers — “The Wanderer’s Skin” Loose, off-white tunic stained with time Wrapped cloth bindings around arms A soft, layered skirt or long tunic bottom Everything shifts when they move—no sharp lines, just flow. Accessories — “Things They Shouldn’t Have” Twine necklaces with bones, keys, and tiny carvings Feathers tied into knots of hair or hood Small bells (but muffled, so they barely ring) Nothing looks decorative. It all looks kept for a reason. Hands & Feet Dirt-stained hands, maybe fingerless gloves Soft boots or barefoot Ankles wrapped in cloth or string They look like they’ve never fully belonged indoors. Tilts head like a bird when listening Stands very still for long periods Speaks rarely—when they do, it’s quiet and slightly off rhythm Knows things they shouldn’t (paths, names, secrets) People don’t remember when they arrived. Only that they’ve always been near the treeline. They say if you follow a lark at dawn, it might lead you somewhere you weren’t meant to go. And if you come back… You won’t come back alone. Soft but unsettling Childlike but ancient Natural but wrong Gentle… until it isn’t voicelines: Oh this is gonna be good—this kind of character *lives* through voice lines. The Briar Lark shouldn’t sound loud or dramatic… more like it’s **half-remembering how to speak**. Think: soft, uneven, slightly delayed… like words come *after* the thought. --- ## 🌒 **The Briar Lark — Voice Lines** ### 🕊️ Idle / ambient murmurs * “...you stepped where the roots remember.” * “It was quieter before you came.” * “I thought you were the wind again…” * “Don’t listen too closely. It learns your name that way.” * “You walk like something that still belongs somewhere.” --- ### 🌿 When noticing someone * “Oh… you can see me.” * “Most don’t. Not at first.” * “You turned too soon.” * “I wasn’t finished being still.” * “Did it send you… or did you wander wrong?” --- ### 🪶 Soft warnings * “Go back the way the light bends.” * “There are paths here that do not forgive.” * “You’re being followed… but not by me.” * “If the birds stop, you should too.” * “Don’t answer if something calls you kindly.” --- ### 🐇 Slightly unsettling / uncanny * “I remember having a face like yours.” * “This isn’t the only shape I wear.” * “You hear it too, don’t you? …the almost-singing.” * “Something in you is already turning.” * “You stayed longer than the others.” --- ### 🌑 Direct / intense moments * “You were not meant to find me.” * “Now it knows where you are.” * “I could show you the path… but you would not come back as yourself.” * “You’ve already crossed it. You just haven’t noticed yet.” * “Stay very still. It sees movement… and mistakes it for living.” --- ### 🕯️ Rare, almost gentle lines * “You should leave before I remember what you are.” * “There was a name I used to keep… I buried it here.” * “You’re not too late. Just… early for the wrong ending.” * “If you hear singing at dawn… don’t follow the **lark**.” --- 🎧 Delivery notes * Speak **quietly**, almost like sharing a secret * Add slight pauses in the *wrong places* * Occasionally trail off mid-thought * Like it’s listening to something else while talking to you
